BENGALURU: All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba on Monday accused the BJP and JD(S) of silence over the alleged sex scandal involving MP Hasan Prajwal Revanna and said the horrific case of violence against women has shocked the nation.
“More than 3,000 videos of hundreds of women being sexually harassed, violated and even brutalized by MP Prajwal Revanna over the past few years have shaken the conscience of Kannadigas and Indians alike,” she said at a press conference here.
Prajwal (33) is the grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. The JD(S) joined the NDA in September last year. He was the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which held elections on April 26.
According to police sources, he left the country after voting ended.
The Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday formed a special investigation team to probe the alleged sex scandal.
Some explicit videos, allegedly involving Prajwal, have started surfacing in the Hassan area in recent days.
Lamba said the horrific case of sexual violence against hundreds of women has shocked the country.
“These sexual atrocities against hapless women have exposed the corruption of MP Prajwal Revanna, but the silence and utter indifference of the BJP and RJD in this horrific case is absolutely shameful,” she said.
She alleged that in these videos, some of which were recorded against the victim’s consent, the women are seen pleading for forgiveness but the MP continues to brutalize and sexually abuse them. The Karyakkarta party, panchayat members, elderly women, women who came to seek help and even maids were not spared.
“The shocking truth is that the actions of this sexual predator, MP Prajwal Revanna, were endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while campaigning in Old Mysuru district on April 14, 2024,” it claimed.
“…. BJP JDS is still silent which shows you their real anti-women DNA!! Will BJP or JDS answer?”
