According to a report in Hindustan Times, a police officer said that Thapan had gone to the washroom at around 12:30 pm. When he did not return for some time, fellow prisoners checked on him and found him dead.
The report said the accused was taken to nearby Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
On April 14, two men allegedly came on a motorcycle and fired five rounds in the air outside Khan’s Bandra home.
Apart from Thapan, Mumbai Police has so far arrested three others, including Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, who were allegedly on the motorcycle from which the shots were fired.
