Make America Great Again (MAGA) and Hindutva are spectacularly successful political ideologies in our planet’s two largest democracies, two countries on two continents separated by at least two great oceans.
us President donald trump Used MAGA to achieve perhaps the unique electoral victory in America since 1789. He won a second term after a landslide defeat in the previous round, despite criminal convictions and legal challenges, which would have been difficult for any extraordinary politician. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chiefs across the world Mohan Bhagwat Used Hindutva to power three consecutive parliamentary victories – an unprecedented achievement in the six decades since Jawaharlal Nehru (India’s first Prime Minister).
MAGA and Hindutva are deeply conservative ideologies with fundamental similarities. Extreme ethno-religious nationalism – bordering on chauvinism – is innate in both. MAGA believes in white evangelical Christian American values, marginalizing minorities, and excluding non-white immigrants. Hindutva proudly proclaims Hindu supremacy – seeing India as a Hindu-centric nation and viewing ‘other’ minorities as inferior and unwanted.
Both are reminders of a glorious past. While Hindutva invokes several centuries of ancient civilizational purity that was violated by Muslim and British invaders for a thousand years before independence, MAGA is of recent vintage. It talks about America’s dominance after World War II which has been violated by Washington elites and globalists.
Both share a deep hatred of secular liberals, using abuses such as seculars and lib-tards (liberal bastards).
Fear-mongering is at the heart of their political mobilization – while MAGA screams about Haitian immigrants “eating your dogs and cats”, Hindutva snarls at Muslims for expropriating property and marrying innocent Hindu girls to change the demographics. Alleges entrapment, and calls it “love jihad”. , Both use symbols to embellish their appeal – MAGA uses the American flag, Hindutva uses the saffron color of Brahmanical Hinduism to build dedicated followers.
Of course, there are some differences between MAGA and Hindutva. While the principal objective of Hindutva is to create a Hindu Rashtra (state) that defines all citizens as “cultural Hindus” regardless of their religion, the objective of MAGA is somewhat less broad and more contemporary. It is not as concerned about cultural homogeneity as it is about re-establishing America’s economic hegemony and driving out unwanted immigrants. However, the similarities dwarf these marginal differences.
But there is another, as yet unexplained, somewhat underground similarity – both are feeling the heat from “political Frankensteins”.
What or who is the political Frankenstein?
A strong political leader and/or movement has been started. It is polarizing, disruptive, and almost always authoritarian. Aggressive evangelists get on the bandwagon but tend to be more visible than the original leader (ship). Before long, ultra-radicals took control and wiped out the creators, becoming “political Frankensteins”.
Although this phenomenon is likely as old as mankind, it gained historical importance in the movement for Irish independence in the 1800s, when Daniel O’Connell’s liberal movement was usurped by the radical Young Ireland faction, leading to O’Connell’s Arrest occurred and irrelevance.
Quite remarkably, even the destruction of the Soviet Union’s last leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the hands of glasnost and perestroika has been cited as an example of his neutralization by the emerging political Frankenstein. Therefore, although his pro-democracy policies were positive, they were too rapid and disruptive to overcome a strong communist state.
Are MAGA and Hindutva facing the ghost of political Frankenstein?
The young (31-year-old) and the restless Laura Loomer was a two-time defeated Republican congressional candidate from Florida when she joined Trump’s third re-election campaign in 2024. He was widely infamous for promoting hatred and conspiracies.
A self-proclaimed “proud Islamophobe”, she promoted the wild theory that 9/11 was perpetrated by “insiders”. Perhaps he won over Trump with his provocative tweet to condemn Kamala Harris – “The White House will smell of curry” -. Trump immediately included him as a fellow campaigner, calling him a “free spirit” and someone “you want on your side.” In a way, she became a Steve Bannon Mark II for the 2024 campaign.
Imagine Donald’s consternation when Loomer and Bannon both attacked Messrs. Musk and Trump. H1B visa supportMostly to Indians. Messrs. Loomer and Bannon saw this as a major refutation of their America-first/anti-immigrant platform. They let the sh@# fly however they can. “Our country was actually built by white Europeans. Not third world invaders from India,” Loomer shouted. Bannon said, “The workers here under this program should be deported… Deport them now and hire American citizens with similar skills.”
At first, Messrs. Musk and Trump tried to bullshit this rebellion. But soon, they realized that Messrs. Loomer and Bannon were gaining traction with MAGA loyalists, so they sued for peace. But Messrs. Loomer and Bannon are in no mood to compromise. They smell a major victory, even the unimaginable, that is, wresting control of MAGA from Trump. Apparently, Trump now sees him as a “near political Frankenstein” who needs to be humiliated; This weak response is very uncharacteristic of Donald J Trump!
Across the two ponds, Loomer and Bannon could count on Yeti Narasimhanand Saraswati (chief priest of the Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad) and T Raja Singh Lodh (Telangana MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party) as fellow provocateurs. Narasimhanand roared (he was arrested for this comment), “Madrassas and Aligarh Muslim University should be blown up.” Raja Singh threatened, “If they take one Hindu girl, we will take 10 of them.”
While these two devotees and hundreds of others have said worse things, it made the RSS chief acutely aware of his ability to hijack Hindutva into dangerous extremist territory and effectively become a “political Frankenstein” Is.
Therefore, Sarsanghchalak Bhagwat has consistently tried to silence, even outlaw, some of these staunch communal bazookas. “If we do not accept Muslims, it is not Hindutva… After the construction of Ram temple, some people think that they can become leaders of Hindus by raising similar issues in new places. This is not acceptable… why look for this shivlinga Everyone MosqueEvery day some new controversy arises. How can this be allowed? This cannot continue… India needs to show that we can live together.
It is clear that both MAGA and Hindutva, basking in the glory of their political victories, are equally concerned about how vulnerable they are to the political Frankenstein who is hijacking their movements, spreading toxicity in unimaginable, uncontrolled quantities. and ultimately ending in irreparable destruction.
