The two seats on which AIMIM contested the election was captured by the Aam Aadmi Party. Aam Aadmi Party has been an MLA of Aam Aadmi Party for 10 years in Okhla seat, while in 2020, Aam Aadmi Party won the Mustafabad seat. But this time Owaisi overturned the matter by giving tickets to the people associated with the CAA-NRC movement from both Muslim dominated seats.
In the 2020 assembly elections in Muslim -dominated Mustafabad, Haji Yunus of Aam Aadmi Party won and then he got around 98 thousand votes, but this time you got 30 thousand less i.e. about 67 thousand votes. So should it not be understood that the Aam Aadmi Party votes have been transferred to Tahir Hussain?
AIMIM impact on Okhla assembly seat
Shifa-ur-Rehman from Okhla seat faced the current MLA of Aam Aadmi Party Amanatullah Khan. Amanatullah Khan has been an MLA of Okhla twice in a row and has won the election for the third time too. AAP, BJP and AIMIM had a tough fight on this seat. In 2020, Amanatullah Khan was won by more than 70 thousand votes, but this time due to AIMIM, this margin remained only 23 thousand.
AIMIM has got around 40 thousand votes on this seat. At the same time, BJP is second and Congress is at number four.
In fact, Arvind Kejriwal had said during the CAA-NRC Protest that if the AAP had Delhi Police under the control of the Delhi government, he would immediately remove the Shaheen Bagh Protest.
Apart from this, Muslim voters were also angry with the Aam Aadmi Party in both these seats because AAP’s senior leader-Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi Singh did not come to campaign. Opposition parties also made an issue that the Aam Aadmi Party did not want the vote of Muslims, so their big leaders did not consider it necessary to come here.
Advantage of emotional message
The anti-CAA demonstration was a milestone in Muslim politics in India- it was the biggest nationwide movement by Indian Muslims in decades. Shifa-ur-Rahman played an important role in protests in Jamia Millia Islamia and Shaheen Bagh. Also, this is the first time that an activist associated with the CAA-NRC movement has come into electoral politics.
The election campaign of Shifa-ur-Rahman and Tahir Hussain also revolved around the ‘Votes instead of jail’ and ‘injustice’. Also, both had got custody payroll for the election campaign. For which Shifa and Tahir would come from jail in the morning for campaigning and would go back in the evening. There would be dozens of police with both. Even though there is no handcuffs, but during the campaign of Tahir and Shifa, a policeman would hold their hands.
The workers of Shifa and AIMIM were sending this message to the people that a person is in jail for us, can we not give him a revenge of this jail by vote.
