5 big reasons for BJP’s victory
In the 2020 assembly elections, BJP had only 8 out of 70 seats, but this time the BJP broke the wall called Kejriwal, which was a hindrance in Delhi’s power. BJP has got about 46 percent of the votes. At the same time, ‘AAP’ is about 44 percent, but the seat cases are double from BJP- 48 out of 70 and ‘AAP’ only 22 seats. But there are many more factor behind this victory of BJP, which we will mention in this article further.
1. Middle Class
The biggest contribution in BJP’s victory can be considered as the middle class voter. According to the 2022 report of People Research on India’s Consumer Economy, 67% of Delhi’s population is middle class. This is the middle class that changed the 15 -year government of Sheila Dixit of Congress only on allegations ranging from corruption (from the Commonwealth Game to Electric Tariff) and believed in Kejriwal’s promises.
Apart from this, the BJP campaigned among the middle class voters and reminded the promises like Kejriwal’s old bungalow and big car, and campaigned by calling CM House a Sheeshmahal. Due to which the dissatisfaction in the voter against the 10 -year rule of AAP increased.
Amidst all this, the country’s budget came on February 2, before the Delhi elections on 5 February 2025. In this budget, the Modi government went to the Brahmastra to woo the middle class- the announcement of tax exemption. The announcement to increase income tax exemption limit from ₹ 7 lakh to ₹ 12 lakh attracted the middle class voter towards BJP.
2. Road-water and garbage
Delhi’s roads, poor sewer conditions, piles of garbage- This is a reason on which Aam Aadmi Party appeared on the backfoot. Earlier on the issue of cleanliness, Aam Aadmi Party cited less seats in MCD, but Aam Aadmi Party MCD since 2022 I am in power This means that now the BJP cannot be responsible for the issue of cleanliness.
In such a situation, the swollen drains, the pits and the garbage, the dazor of the garbage annoyed the voters of Delhi. BJP benefited from this issue. The Kejriwal government was also under question in cleaning the Yamuna river and preventing air pollution. The BJP made it an election issue and it also benefited.
3. BJP’s promises beyond you?
When the BJP released its election manifesto, the only question was whether the freebes would be closed in Delhi? But the BJP went a step ahead and said- the ongoing welfare schemes in Delhi will run the same way. Meaning, there will be free travel free for electricity-water and women in Delhi, as well as many cash schemes will also get the benefit.
Apart from this, BJP announced a subsidy of Rs 500 on LPG cylinders to poor families and promised to give one gas cylinder free in Holi-Diwali. Also promised to increase the pension of elders, widows, disabled from 2,500 to Rs 3,000 above the age of 60 years.
Targeting people of slums and unauthorized colonies. On 3 January 2025 in Delhi, more than 1600 families living in a slum in Ashok Vihar handed over the key of ‘Swabhimaan Flats’. These flats have been built in place of slums.
