Sonu Nigam is one of the most renowned singers in Bollywood. He has dominated the 2000s with soulful singing and was the go-to voice for every major film song. From romantic to emotional and party songs, Sonu has always won hearts. At the same time, the singer is known for his honest attitude, as he never shies away from voicing his unfiltered interviews. Sonu was going through a rough patch in his career and recently bounced back with popular songs like Mere Dholna 3.0 for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. However, his work got no recognition for IIFA 2025, and the singer now shared cryptic post about it.
Sonu Nigam Shares cryptic note on IIFA sub
The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2025 was held on March 8 and 9 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and the special event dominated headlines for a long time. However, Sonu Nigam, who gave hit songs in 2024, was not considered for any nomination in the ‘Best Playback Singer’ male category. The singer didn’t look at it lightly and shared a cryptic post on his Instagram account. It included a screenshot of the nomination list without his name. Sharing the post, he wrote,
“Thank you, IIFA… After all, you were answerable to the Rajasthan bureaucracy.”
The nomination list included several nominations from popular singers like Arijit Singh, Karan Aujla, Diljit Dosanjh and Badshah, Jubin Nautiyal, and Mitraz. Jubin Nautiyal won the final award for his song, Dua in Yami Gautam starrer Article 370. It’s vital to note that Shreya Ghoshal won the ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ award for the same song.
What does Sonu Nigam’s dig mean?
Sonu Nigam hinted in his post that IIFA’s actions might have something to do with the Rajasthan government’s influence. For those unaware, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma left Sonu’s concert midway in December 2024 at the Rising Rajasthan event. Several other political figures joined the CM, and later, Sonu expressed his hurt over the incident and mentioned that politicians shouldn’t attend any concert or other performance if they don’t have time to stay for the whole duration. However, he later performed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan after suffering a severe muscle spasm.

Fellow singers and netizens extend support to Sonu Nigam
