India’s cricket team is amazed by Pakistan, who are on fire, unusually inspired and agro. The players threw the dressing room, crestfollen, shoulders into dropping. A blind shock, the IRATE captain tells them for a handle.
“What happened to people? Do you want the world to say that we are Indian stupids; Pakistanis are the best, most aggressive and impossible to defeat? Do you want I just stand all around; Do I just praise how they kill us!”
The captain used anger/absolute vocabulary – stupid, aggressive, impossible, defeated, killed. But he said that it is in a handle for his team, not in a public press conference for the world. He said that in terms of derogatory performance by his boys, not as a universal truth applied to every match.
Now imagine whether some smart trolls had to remove words in bold; Hodel crop; Show it just the close-up of the captain to make it a single, untoward comment; And place this clip with an evil lead-in graphic on Instagram:
“India’s Cricket Captain is a Pakistan Loving Gaddar. He is a desh drohi (traitor) (Edited audio-visual clips cut):
“We Indians are stupid; Pakistanis are the best, most aggressive and impossible to defeat. I just praise how they kill us!
“Boycott her, Bulldoz her home” (I will leave the most abuses and threats of rape/death that will be covered on his wife and daughter).
You get what I am driving, right? A comment is made within a reference, within a closed group of people who have a shared mission, which has a shared history, so words have a special meaning, which is different from a specific term, which is different from the same word described in a sterile, standalone dictionary.
This is not a public announcement that Hoi Poloi should increase. This is not advice on the scale of a population, something that unknown, unrelated people need to pay attention. But see how mischievous trolls can bend those words to create a completely undesirable destruction.
Social media resentment against L&T’s Subrahmanai
Now I am cutting the social media dispute, which is stopping General Z. Yes, the infamous, off-the-Kaf-Rimark, President of Larsen and Toubro, created by SN Subrahmanian, a trail-blazing infrastructure manufacturer for India, not on any public platform, within a closed group of internal sources of the company. To be authentic, let me reproduce his full statement:
“I regret that I am not able to work you on Sunday. If I am able to work you on Sunday, I will be happy, because I work on Sunday. What are you sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife?
Break (introduced by me, although his statement was constant)
How long can a wife stare at her husband? Go to the office and start working.
to break
Chinese people work 90 hours a week, while American works only 50 hours a week. If you want to live on top of the world, you have to work 90 hours a week.
See the first point of mischief. Most trolls “how long can they stare at their wife?” Naturally, liberals were angry. Sexist comment! Gender shaming! How can she assume that women are not able to do professionals, only as good as a housewife?
But hey, it’s not what he said. In her next comment, was easily released by trolls, she says “how long the wife can stare at the husband?”. Therefore, he cannot be accused of gender stereotyping. He is just saying that in his house, both husband and wife find it very boring for the lounge to do nothing on Sunday.
Not for a minute, it meant that his wife is happy to walk to do nothing, while he believes to do so, a macho man, patriarchy, to do so. No! He talked about lifestyle in his home, voluntarily supported by husband and wife. I know about many houses where couples will enthusiastically agree with Mrs and Mr. Subrahmanai. what’s wrong with that?
Now for the second “blasphemy”, he said, ie “If you want to stay on top of the world, you have to work for 90 hours”.
Did he say that if you do not work for 90 hours every week, you will be dismissed? If yes, it will be tremendous.
Did he say that L&T will not give you employment until you work 90 hours every week? If yes, it will be discriminatory.
Did he say that if you work for less than 90 hours per week, L&T Pro-Rata will reduce your salary? If yes, it will be illegal.
Did they literally mean 90 hours, or were he using the number as a “metaphor” for hard work? If a metaphor, then perhaps we are using “90” to hoist it.
It’s a matter of personal choice
Obviously, Mr. Subrahmanai did not say anything that is for force or discriminatory or illegal. He expressed an approach, using a metaphor. He expressed a strong belief. He expressed an opinion. Everyone disagrees with him. Everyone is free to work, but for many hours they want to work every week, whether it is zero or 20 or 40 or 90. It is a matter of personal choice.
So, all this boils for an opinion and an option. Shri Subrahmanai made him, and God blessed him.
You, as a perfect thinking adult, are free to make you, and God bless you.
India, as a working democracy, will respect every Bona Rai and personal choice, and God blessed India.
What is the need to make trolls, misconduct, ridicule, misinterpretation?
Postscript: Every word that I have written above also applies what Shri Narayan Murthy said about working 70 hours per week, for which he was viciously trolled, perhaps in a ratio of 70:90 compared to being subject to Mr. Subrahmanai!
