Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty starrer, Baazigar was a major hit at the box office. It made Rs. 32 crore globally, and the movie was made on a budget of Rs. 4 crore. The primary star cast members were immensely successful later in their careers. However, Adi Irani, best known for essay Vicky Malhotra, couldn’t rise in the film industry. The actor shared that he could not even afford Rs. 5 milk for his first daughter.
Adi Irani remembers the struggles he had to face after Baazigar
During a recent interview with Filmymantra Media, Adi revealed that the struggles he had to undergo after his movies, Anari and Baazigar, did not work in his favour. Adi, who is the brother of actress Aruna Irani, remembered how he did not even had Rs. 5 to purchase milk for his daughter. In his words:
“My first daughter was born in 1995, and at that point in time, milk cost Rs 5, and sometimes I did not even have that. Every day I had to go out into the city and meet people for jobs and roles, and I had borrowed my friend’s scooter. Sometimes I did not even have money to fill up the tank.”
Adi Irani reveals he could not even afford petrol
Going ahead in the interview, Adi revealed that he used to walk from his house to the bus stop as he could not even afford petrol. Adi shared that people used to ask him what he was doing at a bus stop? He used to lie and say that he was waiting for a friend. People used to ask him why he needed to travel on the bus top, and he revealed that he used to sneak home. He also shared that his sister, Aruna, knew about the situation and said:
“My sister knew about my situation and offered her help many times, but I refused. I am her brother, but that doesn’t mean that she will take care of me all her life; that was my own struggle, and moreover, she had a family of her own to care for.”
Adi Irani shares that he did not even have a phone at his home
Adi, going ahead in the interview, also revealed that he did not have a phone at his home. He had a nearby PCO booth where he used to pay the guy Rs 1 for each message he got for the actor, and an additional rupee to call back. Adi had also agreed to do many extra roles where he was not credited just because he wanted money at that point in his life. However, Adi has huge respect for his wife, Dawn Irani, who was with him when no one believed in the actor. Adi revealed that his wife got him back from his shattering times that left him in a broken pieces. He said:
“People should look up to my wife; without her, I would have never gotten back up. Ours being a love marriage, sometimes I used to feel bad for my wife for being stuck with me.”
