Delnaaz Irani opens up about her divorce with ex-husband, Rajeev Paul
Delnaaz Irani recently sat for a candid conversation in the latest episode of SCREEN: Dear Me. During the conversation, the actress opened up about her 14-year marriage with Rajeev Paul crashing to dust and revealed what led to the unfortunate downfall. For the unversed, Delnaaz separated from her husband in 2010, and their divorce was finalised in 2012. Delnaaz thanked Rajeev for several lessons she learned from him during their time together and pointed out how their relationship had run its course.
She shared that she was out of their marriage with Rajeev Paul way before she left. Delnaaz added that while Rajeev kept denying it, they had drifted apart. She added that while Rajeev doesn’t want to admit to it, there was no respect or love left in their relationship. She was quoted as saying:
“I was out of the marriage way before I actually got out of the marriage. Rajev keeps denying it, but even he had drifted apart. He doesn’t want to say it or has never said it, but it happens sometimes that there is no love or respect. For me, it is very important to have respect in the relationship. Today, when I say I love Percy, there is a lot of respect for the man. When there is no respect in the relationship, it’s best to move out.”
Delnaaz further added that while some people choose to stay in the marriage despite being unhappy, she didn’t see why they should lie to themselves. She shared that she didn’t want to lead a life filled with lies. The actress also revealed that some people had stated that she wouldn’t have left Rajeev if they had a child together, but she dismissed it as “very hypothetical”.
Delnaaz Irani on ignoring Rajeev Paul on Bigg Boss
Delnaaz Irani also recalled the time when she was criticised for ignoring Rajeev Paul on Bigg Boss. She shared that when they got married, she was 22, and Rajeev was 24, and they were so much in love. However, they were struggling in life and had no idea what the future held. She added that while they picked up the pieces and built their lives, somewhere along the lines, they just drifted apart, and despite her hope to work through it, they could not patch things up. She stated:
“I still had hope that it would get sorted someday, but then, emotionally, physically, and mentally, if you’re off, it is done. A lot of random people during Bigg Boss also commented or talked about how he was behind me, but I didn’t pay heed to him. They don’t know. They have not lived my life and were not in my shoes. I was off. I am a Virgo; we are honest and loyal as long as a relationship lasts. Once we are out of something, we are completely out of it.”
Delnaaz Irani gave love another chance with DJ Percy
Soon after legally divorcing Rajeev Paul, Dalnaaz found love again with DJ Percy Karkaria. The duo have been going strong for 13 years now. However, they have decided not to formalize their relationship with marriage. Nonetheless, Percy proposed to Delnaaz with a promise ring and an unconventional proposal. The former asked her to ‘grow old with him’ and has kept his promise since.
