The Quint Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Talked to Ashwini Yadav. He claims that about 30-32 death certificates have already been issued and families are “misunderstanding” only the situation. He said that he records in the hospital and claims that people who lose loved ones want compensation, so they want deaths to be classified under stampede.
Ajay Singh is in the same prediction. His father, Daya Shankar Singh, also died in a stampede on January 29. When Ajay traveled for Shrimaraj for the death certificate, he was told that it would be released after the end of Maha Kumbh. Now, it is March 11, and the wait continues.
He remembers how his father’s body was wrapped in a “57” label shroud. His father had a ₹ 2 lakh insurance policy, but without the death certificate, Ajay cannot file a claim. He says that no government compensation has reached them yet.
Alexander Nishad from Gorakhpur, who lost his mother, Nagina Devi in a stampede, is still waiting for her death certificate and compensation. When Quint talked to him, he remembered how, at the time of his mother’s death, the authorities assured his family. “District Magistrate and Representatives of MP came to our house. I also spoke to MP Ravi Kishan on the phone. But now, no one is telling me anything about the compensation process.”
