It is Deepika Padukone’s dad, Prakash Padukone, who was once upon a time so madly in love with the actress that he could not accept that she was getting married.
When Deepika Padukone revealed her dad, Prakash had a huge crush on Madhuri Dixit
After Madhuri married Dr. Shriram Nene, she took a break from work. Bollywood’s Dhak Dhak queen broke the hearts of a million people when she got married to Dr. Shriram back on October 17, 1999. However, the biggest person who was heartbroken by Madhuri’s marriage was Deepika’s dad, Prakash. It was in 2016 when the actress, in an interview with India Today, shared how her dad had locked himself in the bathroom when he got to know about Madhuri’s marriage. Deepika shared how Madhuri had broken the heart of her dad and said:
“Maybe I’ve mentioned this to you before, but he’s always been doing his own thing—playing badminton, children, wife… He had this whole routine of waking up in the morning and taking the newspapers to the loo, coffee, etc. The day you announced—or rather, the media got to know—that you were getting married, he locked himself up in the bathroom,” Deepika told Madhuri Dixit.”
Prakash Padukone had undereye bags when he came to know about Madhuri Dixit’s marriage
Deepika, going ahead in the interview, shared that till today, it’s a running joke in the family. Her dad was shattered, and when he came out of the bathroom, one could see that he had these bags under his eyes. Deepika’s mom even asked Prakash whether he was crying inside the loo. Reportedly, Deepika had also uttered about the incident to Madhuri, who was heard blushing.
Madhuri Dixit had met Dr. Shriram Nene via her brother
Madhuri and Dr. Shriram had met via an arranged marriage meeting. She was out of her broken relationship with Sanjay Dutt and was not ready for any relationship. Her brother, Ajit Dixit, persuaded her to meet his buddy, a cardiovascular surgeon, back in the US. Madhuri in an interview with Anupam Kher shared:
“My brother had very sneakily invited his family over. It happens, right, when siblings invite people over for a party and then ask you later about one person? I’d always say I’m not looking for anybody. But this time, for the first time, after a party I knew someone would nudge me and ask if I liked him. And I did.”

Deepika’s dad, Prakash, is the first Indian-origin badminton player who won the All England Open Badminton Championships back in 1980. He made the entire India proud, and in 2025, he will be completing 45 years of his victory with a streak. Prakash is also a proud father-in-law to Ranveer Singh, and Deepika, in many of her interviews, has always revealed the qualities she has inherited from her father. Ranveer on the other hand too never leaves an opportunity to heap words of praise on Prakash. The actor ensures that he always cheers for his paa-in-law.
