Bollywood diva, Deepika Padukone, is gradually opening up on the reality of motherhood, together with its positive aspects and its downsides, especially for a working woman. The actress is a new mom who welcomed her daughter, Dua, with her husband, Ranveer Singh, in September 2024. In a recent event, Deepika got real about navigating life after having a baby, and the ‘mom guilt’ that comes with it.
Deepika Padukone shares her take on motherhood
Deepika recently graced the prestigious Forbes 30/50 Global Summit in Abu Dhabi, making heads turn with her dazzling golden ensemble paired with edgy black boots. She exuded grace and glam as she shared her journey with the audience. When asked if becoming a mother has changed how she chooses her roles, Deepika didn’t hesitate and said:
“Yes, I think motherhood in itself has been so incredible that I’m sure somewhere, if not consciously, subconsciously it will influence the kind of movies and the roles that I choose to do moving forward. Having said that, I do believe that I’ve been pretty aware and conscious even before motherhood.”
But even superstars are human. Deepika got candid about something so many moms struggle with — balancing career and family without the lingering weight of guilt. As a new mother, she cannot help herself from feeling guilty as she is gradually getting back to work. Deepika also seeks suggestions from fellow mothers to help with the feeling, while also describing how she is still figuring it out. She was heard saying:
“I think where I’m at in my life right now is how do I manage my time as a mother, as a new mother, with getting back to–and I’m sure there are some incredible women here who can give me some wise, some wisdom, whatever, but to be able to manage my daughter and her life and getting back to work without feeling guilt. I think that is something I’m figuring out. I won’t say I am struggling with it, but I’m still figuring it out.”

Reacting to Deepika’s photos on Instagram, her husband, Ranveer dropped a playful “phew!” with a hot face emoji, proving once again that he’s her biggest cheerleader.
