Popular social media influencer, dancer and actress, Avneet Kaur, is riding the ladder of success. She began her journey in showbiz as a child artiste and appeared in various daily soaps, reality shows and films. At just 23, Avneet has carved a niche for herself, even making her red carpet debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024 for Love in Vietnam. However, her journey hasnât been easy. Recently, she revealed facing verbal abuse from a director when she was only 11.
Avneet Kaur recalls the incident that shattered her confidence as a child actor
Avneet, who began her journey in the entertainment industry at a very young age, recently sat down for an interview with Hauterrflyâs The Male Feminist, where she opened up about navigating the challenges of showbiz. During the candid conversation, the Tiku Weds Sheru actress recalled an incident from when she was just 11 or 12 years old. While shooting for a daily soap, a directorâs harsh and abusive words deeply affected her, leaving her confidence scarred for a long time. Avneet shared:
âThere was this one incident from the time when I was struggling, and it really scared me. I was just starting out, and this director gave me a very heavy monologue with heavy words, which I had to say. Now, I was very scared, because I was 11 or 12, and I fumbled 2-3 times, which is when he switched on his mic and started speaking harshly. He said that I wasnât capable of doing anything and that I would never succeed in this industry. He even abused me verbally.â
Avneet further revealed that her parents werenât allowed on set at the time, leaving her confused and vulnerable. When she finally told them about the incident, her confidence as an actor shattered. She said:
âI was very confused because my parents were not allowed on set. I went to my parents and told them everything and my self-confidence broke as an actor. After that I got to know that he was doing the same thing to other actresses also, like big names, he did the same with them.â
Avneet Kaur recalls facing inappropriate behaviour on set
Talking about inappropriate behaviour on set, Avneet shared that she has now grown accustomed to these problems, just like any other girl, and she knows how to handle them now. When asked about her first uncomfortable encounter on set, Avneet recalled an unsettling experience when she was around eight years old. She shared:
âOnce, during dance rehearsals, there was a spot or someone who touched here and thereâĻ at the time, I told my mother about thisâĻ then my mom told me that beta, this is bad touch, this is good touch and whatever. You have to understand that this happens. I am telling you this from back when I was eight years old. And since then, I was well prepared for such thingsâ
