Dhanashree Verma to pay tax on her Rs. 4.75 crore alimony?
Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal’s divorce turned out to be one of the messy divorces where fans didn’t hold off from bashing the other. While neither Yuzvendra nor Dhanashree has commented on why they decided to go their separate ways, netizens have come up with enough theories of their own. While some called out Dhanashree for being a gold-digger which was further hinted at by Yuzvendra’s ‘Be your own sugar daddy’ T-shirt, others believe that it was the cricketer who cheated on his wife. Dhanashree’s infidelity song, Dekha Ji Dekha Maine, released on the day of her divorce, further fueled this theory.
However, while we can only speculate what went down between the couple. Reports have confirmed that Dhanashree and Yuzvendra are now separated, and the dancer has been granted an alimony of Rs. 4.75 crores. As to whether Dhanashree will have to pay tax on the alimony, the short answer is ‘no’. Since the dancer received the alimony amount in a one-time lump sum alimony payment, it will be treated as a capital asset and will not be taxable. However, if the alimony were being paid on a monthly or yearly basis, it would’ve come under taxable income under the ‘Income from Other Sources’, and the recipient, here Dhanashree, would’ve had to mention it in her income tax return as per the applicable rules.
