On March 22, 2025, the CBI submitted its closure report to a special court in Mumbai. The agency confirmed there was no evidence to suggest that anyone instigated Sushant to die by suicide, marking an end to the investigation. According to various sources, the closure report mainly covers two cases, one filed by Sushant’s family against his then-girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, and another by Rhea against Sushant’s sisters for allegedly arranging a fraudulent prescription for him. After thorough investigations, including expert analysis from AIIMS forensic teams, the CBI found no basis for any criminal conspiracy.
The CBI closure report concluded that the late actor’s demise was a suicide and not a homicide. AIIMS forensic experts had earlier ruled out poisoning or strangulation, dismissing widespread speculations about foul play.
Rhea Chakraborty gets a clean chit from Sushant Singh Rajput’s case
Rhea Chakraborty, who was Sushant’s girlfriend at the time of his death, had faced intense scrutiny, and media trials, and was even arrested in a related drug case in 2020 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). She and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, were later granted bail. Throughout the ordeal, Rhea maintained her innocence, denying all allegations of wrongdoing or financial misconduct. Following the CBI’s closure report, Rhea and her family have now been formally cleared of all charges relating to Sushant’s death.
