Stand-up comedian, Kunal Kamra found himself in the middle of a political controversy due to a recent comment. During one of his performances, he cracked a joke about the Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Eknath Shinde. However, this was not taken as lighthearted humour by the members of the party, and one of the leaders threatened him with ‘dire consequences’.
Kunal Kamra receives a warning for his joke about Eknath Shinde
Kunal Kamra’s show was recently being filmed at the Hotel Unicontinental in Khar, Mumbai. The segment featured a gaddar jibe at Eknath Shinde. He had mocked the deputy Chief Minister by modifying a song from the film, Dil Toh Pagal Hai. While Kunal thought the traitor jab would be considered a lighthearted comment, it did not sit well with the Sena leaders.
Shiv Sena leaders warn Kunal Kamra
Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP, Naresh Mhaske shared his displease with the joke and called Kunal Kamra a contract comedian. He warned the comedian that he should not have stepped on the snake’s tail as there are repercussions once the fangs are out. He further claimed that the comedian had taken money from Uddhav Thackeray to target Eknath Shinde. Naresh Mhaske further condemned Sena UBT’s Sanjay Raut for sharing such a video on social media. He was quoted as saying:
“Once the fangs are out, there will be dire consequences. We will make sure you cannot move freely throughout the country. We are Shiv Sainiks of the late Balasaheb Thackeray. If we start following you, you will have to leave the country. His (Uddhav) party is left with nobody, so it is hiring such people. Kamra will now realise the consequences of criticising Shinde.”
The Shiv Sena MLA, Murji Patek, also shared his views on the matter and how offensive the joke was. He, too, issued a warning against Kunal Kamra and stated that he would show him his ‘level’. He further urged him to apologise for the joke. He added, “I am going to file an FIR against Kamra at MIDC police station.”

Shiv Sena vandalised the hotel where Kunal Kamra had shot the video
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Sanjay Raut shared Kunal Kamra’s video on X with a caption that read, “Kunal Ka Kamal.” However, the joke was taken as an offence against the leader, Eknath Shinde, and a warning was issued to him. The party workers even vandalised the hotel in Khar where Kunal’s show was filmed.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Sanjay Raut later took the stand to defend Kunal Kamra after the vandalism of Hotel Unicontinental. He took to his X handle and once again shared a tweet. He called out the politician and stated that he was weak for reacting in such a way about what was a lighthearted parody. He was quoted as saying:
“Kunal Kamra is a well-known writer and stand-up comedian. Kunal composed a parody song on Maharashtra’s political scenario, which irked the Shinde gang and then ransacked the studio. Devendraji, you are a weak home minister.”
