A babysitter in Kansas got more than she bargained for when a child she was watching complained about a “monster” hiding under the bed.
Thinking it was just a case of bedtime nerves, she decided to check, only to find a real man hiding underneath.
According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, the man, Martin Villalobos Jr., had a protection order against him and wasn’t supposed to be near the home. When the babysitter discovered him, chaos broke out. During the struggle, both she and the child were knocked over before Villalobos took off.
Deputies arrived that night and began searching for him. The next day, while patrolling the area, they spotted Villalobos again. He tried to run but didn’t make it far before getting caught.
Now, the 27-year-old is sitting in the Barton County Jail on charges for aggravated kidnapping and child endangerment, with his bond set at $500,000.
For that kid, the monster under the bed was no bedtime story—it was real.
