PUSU Election: Jan Suraj supported NSUI
Patna University (PU) students’ union elections with more than 18,000 voters are being held after a delay of two years. The last election was held in November 2022. This time, apart from NSUI and ABVP, students RJD and Left Student Organization AISA and AISF have also fielded their candidates for the posts of Chairman, Vice President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. However, the student JDU, who won the historic victory in the last election, is absent from the election.
JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar refused to give more information about this decision. They said,
This time, Prashant Kishore’s party -backed candidates are in four of the five central panel seats and introduced them all to the media. Prashant Kishore is also raising the issue of not giving the status of Central University to PU and raising questions how ABVP can ask for votes in the same university. He was also attacking NSUI, citing the controversial statement made by Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s Biharis.
However, a few days later, Jan Suraj announced his support from his presidential candidate Divesh Dinu and announced unconditional support to Manoranjan Kumar Raja of NSUI. The party claimed that Dinu was trying to influence the election result with ABVP. However, its candidates are still in the fray for four other posts.
This time Pappu Yadav candidates are also not in the fray. In 2019, the candidates of Pappu Yadav’s party won the posts of Chairman and Joint Secretary. While the students RJD and AISA won one seat each, ending the domination of ABVP. This time Pappu Yadav is with NSUI.
In 2022, the student RJD lost. But this time the party is hoping to perform well. Student RJD candidate Priyanka Kumari is contesting for the post of president.
Lakshmi Kumari from AIDSO for the post of president, Hrithik Roshan from Disha, Vishwajit Kumar from AISA, Maithili Mrinalini from ABVP and Dheeraj Kumar are standing independents. In the election, eight candidates are in the fray for the posts of eight candidates and General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer for the post of President and Vice President.
