Fernandes said, “The average person on the road does not give any shame about what Raina said, what Kunal Kamra said, or what I have said.” “They are worried about putting food on the table, placing a roof on their heads and sending their children to school. We only use people in power as pawns.”
He argued that the accountability should not fall on the comedian but on the citizens, who should give their opinion about the work taken on the jokes.
Fernandes faced himself a backlash for a joke from politicians last year, canceling his shows and threats. However, he said that there should be no limit to political comedy.
“There is scope for political comedy, but it comes at a price,” he said. “Right now, perhaps only three or four of us are talking about politics. If people had a sense of humor, there would have been a lot of a lot.”
