Atlanta police confirmed late Friday that Young Scooter was fleeing from police when he severely injured his leg jumping over fences and later died from that injury.
The hip-hop star was pronounced dead at Grady Marcus Trauma Center in Atlanta after being transported by Emergency Medical Services from a location on the city’s southeast side, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lt. Andrew Smith of the Atlanta PD told reporters that an unidentified man—assumed to be Scooter—suffered a severe leg injury while fleeing officers on foot. Smith did not specify the exact nature of the injury, but the femoral artery, a critical blood vessel, is in the leg.
Officers had responded to a disturbance call when two men ran from the back of a house. One, believed to be Scooter, jumped two fences in an attempt to escape, injuring his leg in the process. No shots were fired by officers, Smith emphasized.
Scooter first rose to fame in 2012 when he signed with Future’s label, Freebandz. He collaborated with Gucci Mane on “Free Bricks 2” and later worked with Future and Juice WRLD on their 2018 track “Jet Lag,” which reached the Billboard Hot 100.
