Rajesh Khanna is known to be the first superstar of Hindi cinema. His female fans had unrequited love for ‘Kaka’, who was known for his chocolate boy looks and superhit movies. Veteran actor, Raza Murad had a very cordial relationship with Rajesh Khanna, who had delivered 15-16 hit movies in a row. Raza remembered how ‘Kaka’ had a heart of gold and used to gift bungalows to his friends. The superstar also had a habit of arriving late on the sets of movies.
Raza Murad shares how Rajesh Khanna used to gift bungalows, and cars to his friends
It was during the late ’60s and early ’70’s that Rajesh Khanna delivered superhit movies and was known to have cast a spell on all his fans across the country. In an interview with ANI, veteran actor, Raza shared that ‘Kaka’ was never punctual on the sets. The other actors on the sets had to wait as Rajesh used to come after 5 to 7 hours. Raza shared that sets used to get cancelled and everyone had to be mentally prepared that Rajesh would never be on time. Raza shared how ‘Kaka ‘was a big-hearted person and shared:
“Unka joh apna lifestyle tha, packup ke baad unke ghar mei roz dawat hoti thi. Bahut hi bada unka dil tha. He was a very big hearted man. Khilane, pilane mei, apne dosto ko bungalows gift kiye hai, gaadiyan giftr ki hai. Lekin yheh tha ki shamko mehfil hoti aur dost aate thei. Dost apni marzi se aate thei, jaate kakji ke marzi se thei. Aap ek baar aaye toh unki marzi se alvida keh sakte hai. Aur phir parties chalti thi, subah 5 baje dinner serve hota tha, phir 6 baje woh sote thei. 1-2 baje uthte thei, phir taiyar hoke 3-4 baje aa jate thei. Toh yeh silsila tha.”
When Raza Murad shared Namak Haraam director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee had discipline issues with Rajesh Khanna
Raza, going ahead in the interview, shared another interesting anecdote. The actor, apart from working with Amitabh, has also worked with Rajesh, and Raaj Kumar. Murad, who did more than 100 movies, shared that he was a part of an unmissable Namak Haraam set. During the shooting of the song, Sooni Re Sejaria, along with Jayashree T and Habiba Rehman, director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee was frustrated as Amitabh and Rajesh used to take phone calls during the shooting. To maintain discipline, Raza shared:
“The studio was quite far from the office, and at one point, Rajesh Khanna, also called ‘Pintu’ by the director, went to attend a phone call, causing delays. Hrishikesh Mukherjee got angry because it was costing the producer money, and when Amitabh Bachchan, too, was caught on a phone call, the director had enough.”
Mukherjee did have an outburst on Rajesh and Amitabh and reminded them that every minute delay on the sets was costing the production Rs 4,000. He had strictly told Kaka and Big B that unless the shooting of the song was over, no one could leave the sets.
