This is no secret Canada is more closely connected to America than Red AmericaSpeaking politically. Being a slightly more population than California (the most populous American state), Canada will have the most electoral votes, giving Democrats a major benefit.
Except for such imaginary scenarios, we hope that the US and Canada will repair their relationship in the near future. Looking at their long friendship, if they do not do it, it would be a matter of shame.
One can argue that the bowl of salad is a better metaphor to describe Canada or America, with its mixed ingredients. Food metaphors, despite their limitations, can provide insight. For example, the metaphor of Shashi Tharoor for India- Plate-Both occupy their uniqueness.
If we go back to American history, melting utensils meant that sometimes to avoid immigrant, prejudice and discrimination, their names, background details and even their religion masked their origin. This is no longer true. We take the given asymmetry, and integration in society is seen as a healthy option to assimilate total.
It tells us about Trump 2.0 (and the Maga movement, more widely). But their name-fisted efforts to highlight multiculturalism and a more inclusive, similar society will eventually fail-because most Americans, especially young Americans, are not interested in turning back back to the clock. And if they refuse to follow, you cannot pull them there.
In the 1960s, during the time of upheaval, the US was an inspiration for countries such as Canada. Now, as the US undergoes turmoil and period of regression, it is Canada which is beacon.
