A Georgia man is behind bars after police say he left his three children unattended while he interviewed for a position with McDonald’s.
Chris Louis, 24, of Augusta, was arrested on March 22nd and charged with deprivation of a minor. The incident occurred at a McDonald’s on Washington Road, where the restaurant’s indoor playground caught the attention of a concerned customer. The customer noticed the children, ages 1, 6, and 10, were alone and alerted authorities.
A deputy responded to the scene and confirmed the children were unsupervised. A witness stated that Louis had been at the restaurant with the children around 4:30 p.m. but later saw him leave and return multiple times. Louis was detained by officers when he returned to the McDonald’s at 6:18 p.m. He explained that he had walked to the restaurant with his children from their apartment and did not want to make them walk back while he attended his interview. According to Louis, he didn’t own a vehicle.
The children’s mother arrived shortly after and took custody of them. Louis was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Social media has rallied around Louis, calling for charges to be dropped, as he was trying to find employment to provide for his children.
