The Supreme Court refuses to release Renver Allahbodia’s passport against the background of a permanent probe
The Supreme Court refused to satisfy the request submitted by the popular YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchalani, which sought the release of the passports. A bench consisting of a Surikant judges, and N Kotishwar Singh said their request would only be considered after the investigation into their conflicting remarks made during the episode of their ordered podcas “India, Latent”.
The background of the case
The case stems from the episode of the “Indian Lante”, a podcasman conducted by Renveyor Alahbodia, popularly known as Beerbiceps. The episode involving Ashisha Chanchanyi allegedly contained remarks that caused disputes and led to a legal investigation. After the reverse reaction, the video was removed from all platforms, but the authorities continued the investigation into the issue.
As part of the probe, passports of both influences were confiscated that limited their international trips. Seeking the relief, they turned to the Supreme Court, claiming that the attack was unjustified and prevented them from professional obligation abroad. However, the court refused to intervene at this stage, saying that the case should be fully investigated before you can make any passport decision.
This legal battle attracted attention to the strengthening of control over the creators of the content in India, causing discussion on free speech, accountability and consequences of the internet.
