Introducing the WAQF correction bill, 2025, in Locke -Sabh, the Minister of the Trade Union, Kiren Riga, on Wednesday, was aimed at the IPA government correction on the WAQF law, interviewing the powers provided for in section 108.
Rijiju noted the three changes made by the UPA government “, in 2013, just before the election to Lok -Sabha in 2014, some steps were taken to raise questions in your head. In 2013, an act was changed to allow Sikhs, Hindus, Parsis and others to create Waqf. All know Waqf for Muslims.
Rijiju added that the UPA government has made a characteristic WAQF council, limiting its single community and provided the preferred effect in section 108.
“This change was made by Congress in 2013. Congress made the specificity of the Soviets, only the neck in Shiite councils … Section 108 was added that WAQF would have a predominant effect over any other law. How can this section be acceptable?” Said Rijjiju.
Rijiju claimed that according to these changes, the UPA government indicated 123 objects and handed them over to the Council of Delhi Wakf.
“A Case Ongoing Since 1970 in Delhi Involved Several Properties, Including The CGO Complex and The Parliament Building. The Delhi Waqf Board Had Claimed These As Waqf Properties. UPA GOVERNMENT Denotified 123 Properties and Handed The Waqf Board IF.
Further, Rijiju said that “the WAQF bill does not interfere with any religious system, any religious institution and any religious practice.”
He also said that the provisions have nothing to do with any mosque, temple or religious place.
“This is just a matter of property management. However, WAQF properties are guided by the WAQF and Mutawalli Council. If someone doesn’t understand this major difference or deliberately choosing, then I have no solution for that,” Riga added.
Along with the WAQF (amendments), 2025, Riga also moved to the Musalman Wakf (cancellation bill), 2024, for consideration and passage to Lok -Sabh.
On the eve of the bill, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Union, Amite Shah, confronted the opposition over the criticism of JPC and said: “We have a democratic committee that is brainstorming.”
“Our committee discusses, reflects on discussions and changes. If the changes are not accepted, what is the meaning of the committee?” He added.
Earlier, the bill was submitted in Lok Sabha last August and a joint parliamentary committee led by BJP Jagdambika Pal, inspected it. The bill seeks to change the law on 1995. The bill seeks to improve the administration and management of WAQF facilities in India. It is aimed at overcoming the deficiencies of the previous law and improving the efficiency of WAQF tips, enhancing the registration process and increasing the role of technology in the management of WAQF.
