The government has appointed Poonam Gupta Deputy Governor of the Indian Reserve Bank for three years to replace Michael D. Trans, who came out of the key position in January this year. Gupto is also a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister and Member of the Advisory Council of the 16th Financial Commission. It is also part of the Niti Aayog Advisory Committee and headed the Macroeconomics and Trade Operational Group during the G20 presidency.
Previously, she worked as a leading economist at the World Bank. Her career includes the post of Chairman of the RBI at the National Institute of State Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Professor of the Indian Council for International Economic Relations (ICRIER).
Gupta holds positions on the NIPFP and Global Development Network (GDN) and is a member of the World Bank Advisory Group on “Poverty and Justice” and “World Development Reports”.
