Former En Vogue member Dawn Robinson is setting the record straight after her ex-husband Andre “Dre” Allen claimed he offered her a job in the hospitality industry following her recent revelation that she’s been living in her car for the past three years.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Robinson, 58, disputed Allen’s public offer, telling the outlet, “I haven’t heard from this man. I don’t know what he’s talking about.” She added, “He has to get his shine on my coattails, and the fans are handling him just fine. I haven’t had to say a word to him.”
Allen, a former member of the R&B group IV Xample and now working in hospitality, told TMZ last month that he had extended a job opportunity to Robinson, which he said included “free medical from day one” and PTO to support her creative pursuits. The pair were married from 2003 to 2010.
Allen has not publicly responded to Robinson’s statement or PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Robinson made headlines after sharing in a YouTube video that she had been living in her vehicle for the last three years. The revelation sparked an outpouring of support from fans and renewed attention on the singer’s current journey.
Despite the attention, Robinson emphasized that she is not homeless, and is actively working on new creative projects — including a memoir and documentary based on her experience living in her car. “I just about have it all done,” she said. “I pretty much need an editor and maybe some external shots.” She added that she has been in talks with a network about developing the film.
