Love is in the air for Indian chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, as he just pulled off the most beautiful checkmate of his life. On April 2, 2025, the 30-year-old chess sensation tied the knot with his longtime partner, Nidhi Kataria, in a grand wedding that was nothing short of a dreamy fairytale. The wedding saw some of the biggest names from the chess world, and it was a star-studded affair.
Vidit Gujrathi ties the knot with Nidhi Kataria
The wedding celebrations of the chess grandmaster was not just dreamy but a legendary affair. The chess fraternity came together to celebrate the divine union of Vidit and Nidhi at the luxurious Oxford Golf Resort in Pune.
For their grand wedding, Vidit Gujathi looked nothing short of a royal prince sporting a regal cream sherwani adorned with intricate embroidery and embellishments, which he paired with a matching turban. He accessorised the ensemble with a pearl necklace, diamond studs, a kalgi and a watch. Henna-clad hands beautifully completed the ensemble. Vidit’s bride, Nidhi Kataria, looked dreamy in a stunning cream-coloured lehenga featuring intricate motifs. She paired the lehenga-choli with a matching dupatta draped gracefully over the shoulder. Her accessories included a striking kundan necklace, matching earrings, maang teeka, matha patti, bangles and haath phool.
The bride and groom looked the happiest as they became Mr and Mrs, gracefully stepping into their married life together. Sharing moments from their beautiful wedding on his Instagram, Vidit penned a heartfelt note that read:
“We always dreamt of a moment like this, under soft skies, surrounded by the people we love, with petals falling like blessings from above. And in this very frame, we found it, the joy, the stillness, the everything we imagined love would feel like.”
Chess champions set the dance floor on fire
The highlight of Vidit and Nidhi’s grand wedding was the star-studded guest list, which included top GMs such as Anish Giri, Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Sasikiran Krishnan, and many more. Amid all this, the extra layer of glitz was added by World Chess Champions, Viswanathan Anand and D Gukesh, as they broke into a celebratory dance on the floor, and their videos have since gone viral online.
Who is Vidit Gujrathi’s bride, Nidhi Kataria?
While Vidit does not need any more introduction, his wife, Nidhi Kataria, is also an enigma in herself. Nidhi is a 28-year-old homeopathic doctor by profession, and she has become quite popular in the world of chess for her connection with the GM. In November 2024, Nidhi made her relationship with Vidit official by sharing dreamy photos from their engagement on her Instagram handle. She penned a beautiful caption that read:
“Not accepting rishtas anymore. It’s official now!”
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Vidit is busy preparing for his upcoming high-stakes match in Paris, the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam, which kicks off on April 7, 2025.
