Saif Ali Khan is a prominent star in the Hindi film industry, and an attack against him at his residence shocked the country. From immediate hospitalisation and urgent surgeries to media attention, the actor and his family went through a tough time. Although they are healing from the memories of the incident, the key accused, Shariful Islam, is in prison, and the case is still in court. A few days later, Shariful filed a bail plea in his court with some startling claims, and now the police has responded to it.
Police reveals key evidence to oppose Shariful Islam’s bail plea
On April 4, 2025, the Mumbai Police appeared in a court and opposed the bail plea filed by Shariful Islam in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case. According to PTI, they submitted some critical forensic evidence linked to the case. They revealed that the small pieces of knife that were used to stab the actor near his spine and the other found at the crime scene were a match with the weapon recovered from Mohammed Shariful Islam. Consequently, all three knife pieces belong to the same weapon used in the attack on Saif Ali Khan. Moreover, they submitted a written response in the court about it with a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report.
Police revealed that the three pieces of the knife had been sent for a further chemical analysis test at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina in Mumbai. At the same time, they highlighted that Shariful Islam is a Bangladeshi citizen who was living in India illegally. They suspected that there was a possibility that Shariful could run away, so he shouldn’t be granted bail. Moreover, they highlighted that the offence was very ‘serious in nature’ and ‘strong evidence’ was available against him.
Shariful Islam claims that the case filed against him is ‘untrue’
According to a previous report by India Today, Shariful Islam Shehzad, who is in custody, has filed a new bail application in the Mumbai Sessions Court. He mentioned that he has been cooperating with the authorities despite their earlier claims about his non-cooperation. His lawyer also asserted that he won’t tamper with any evidence in the case. So, he should not be in continued detention without any punishment. Calling the case against him to be untrue, his plea said:
“The FIR is patently false, and a false case has been registered against him. The applicant has cooperated with the investigation. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by detaining him further in custody, save and except pre-trial punishment.”
