US President Donald Trump has once again criticised India and other countries for imposing “very unfair” tariffs on the US and announced that retaliatory tariffs would take effect from April 2. “India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100%,” he said, in his first joint address to Congress since taking office for a second time. In the last 24 hours, the American president has launched new 25% tariffs on goods from US neighbours Canada and Mexico, and doubled tariffs on Chinese products to 20%.
