Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Donald Trump within the next 30 days, stating at an anti-Trump rally in Washington that Trump “does not deserve” to hold the executive office.
Green, addressing the crowd at the “Hands Off!” rally, emphasized that although Trump is a powerful figure, likening him to Goliath, there is always a David. “For every Goliath, there is a David,” he proclaimed, stressing his resolve. “I’m coming for you, Mr. President,” Green said, reiterating his commitment to bringing impeachment proceedings in the coming month.
Two months earlier, Green had made similar promises, criticizing Trump’s unworthiness to lead the nation.
“You can’t be entrusted with liberty and justice for all,” Green said, asserting that Trump could not be trusted with government that is “of the people, by the people, for the people.”
In response, White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston reaffirmed Trump’s stance on protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, contrasting it with the Democrats’ approach, which she argued would drain resources and burden American seniors.
Previously, Green had vowed impeachment following Trump’s controversial remarks about the Gaza Strip.
“Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” Green declared in February, tying international issues to his stance on domestic justice. Green’s earlier impeachment efforts during Trump’s first term fell short, and in February, he was censured by the House for disrupting a joint address.
