India stand against Trump
Pratap Bhanu Mehta Indian express It is written that the question of Donald Trump destroying the global trade system arises that how should countries react at this moment? There is an approach in India that wants to turn this moment into an opportunity by making Trump happy.
From this perspective, India should reduce tariffs. We reached there under external pressure, it is fine. And, if it makes India happy with Trump quickly then it will be even better. However, this approach is short -sighted and wrongly understands the nature of Trump’s functions. Instead of bending in front of forced recovery, it would be in India’s long -term interest to create global collective resistance against Trump’s autocracy.
When Trump says that his goal is a mutual tariff, it may seem so, but it is something else. Laws or rules are capable or constrained tools with their nature. They do not determine the results. Trump’s tariff is not about mutuality. They are about to balance the business on bilateral basis which is an absurd idea.
