Shraddha Kapoor, who played the role of a shape-changing ghost (chudail) in the horror-comedy film, Stree, was a significant factor in the success of the cult franchise. Although the whole film crew worked well, it managed to convey that an actress could carry a mainstream film on her shoulder, greatly boosting Shraddha Kapoor’s career. Her impressive screen presence and versatile acting skills were the film’s soul. Fans are already excited about Stree 3, and amid the wait, a recent statement by its producer, Dinesh Vijan and director, Amar Kaushik, about the film has caused a new controversy. Here’s what happened.
Amar Kaushik reveals he had cast Shraddha Kapoor in Stree owing to her unique laugh
Stree director, Amar Kaushik recently sat down for an interview with Komal Nahta and discussed his experience making the blockbuster, horror-comedy franchise. During his conversation, he shared how he decided to cast Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role of ‘Stree’s’ daughter. Amar Kaushik mentioned that the credit for choosing Shraddha goes to the film’s producer, Dinesh Vijan, who told her she laughs like a chaudail. In his words:
“Shraddha ki casting (credit) puri ki puri Dinesh Vijan ko jaati hai. Woh Shraddha ke saath kisi flight mein aa rahe the, aur flight mein who unko mili thi. Toh unhone bola, Amar woh jab hasti hai na toh ekdum Stree ki tarah, ekdum chudail ki tarah hasti hai.”
He apologised to Shraddha while sharing the instance and mentioned that he wasn’t sure whether Dinesh used the exact word chudail or not. Consequently, when Amar next met the Half-Girlfriend actress, he asked her to laugh. But that was not used in the film because her character of the shape-shifting ghost didn’t use to laugh. However, it all started from there.
Netizens were unhappy with Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan mocking Shraddha Kapoor’s laugh
A fan had cut the clip of Amar Kaushik’s interview, in which he discussed Sharddha’s casting and shared it on X (formerly Twitter). It went viral, and netizens were unhappy with Amar and Dinesh for making fun of the actress. One fan highlighted how Amar didn’t mention Shraddha’s talent and penned, “Acting wagera ka kuch lena dena nahi. Imagine getting cast because your laugh matches with a chudail.” Another netizen wrote, “This is just so disrespectful main toh nahi sehti agar main Shaddha hoti.”
