The WAQF (amendment) law came into force on Tuesday, the government said.
The WAQF correction bill, adopted by parliament last week, has been in the news for a long time. This became an act after President Drupadi Murma gave her the proposed law on April 5. It came into force on Tuesday, the government said. While the NDA led by BJP rallied in support of the bill, the opposition India bloc united in the confrontation. Among this, several social media users shared a video involving the Congress leader Gandhi Vadda surrounded by a huge crowd and police officials. They claimed that the congressional deputy protested against the WAQF correction bill. Check Viral positions there and there.
Post’s headline, originally on Hindi, read: “Congress conducts treatment by the BJP government on the WaQF bill. Jiri Ramesh said we will go to the Supreme Court against the WAQF bill. The WAQF bill was brought into the plunder of land. Congress will protest against it from the streets.” Check the screenshot of the message here:
Fact check
In our investigation, we first conducted a viral video through the Invid tool and gained several key frames. We then conducted several key shots through Google Lens with some keywords, and found several users who shared it with similar claims. We also found the same video downloaded on YouTube’s official channel Ten News National National August 5, 2022. Check here. The video title stated: “Gandhi’s friend came out on the road, wearing black clothes, police took custody. Watch the video” We also found a NDTV video report on August 5, 2022, which stated that Congress protested against inflation. The name of the report said: “Gandhi Vada’s friend is sitting on the road in protest, police surround her.” Axis link to the report.
Conclusion
In our investigation, we thought that the requirement with the viral video was misleading. The viral video goes back to 2022, when Gandhi’s friend protested from inflation. Thus, this is not related to the protest against the WAQF correction bill.
