Acclaimed actor, Om Puri is regarded as one of the finest actors in the world of cinema. His contribution to the acting world is not unknown to anyone. Well, it was in 2017 when the legendary actor bid farewell to the world. Just like his professional life, his personal life was widely talked about. Om Puri got married to Seema Kapoor back in 1990 after more than a decade of dating. Soon after the same, he got involved with the writer, Nandita Puri, which ended his relationship with Seema. Om Puri’s first wife, Seema Kapoor’s professional life
Seema Kapoor is the sister of Ranjit Kapoor and Annu Kapoor, and she began her career in the entertainment industry. She had a deep connection to theatres as her father had a theatre in Delhi, and this led her to pursue her career in the entertainment world. Later, she shifted her career to filmmaking and writing. It was in 2017, when Seema directed the featured film, Mr. Kabadi, which was written by none other than her ex-husband, Om Puri. Apart from that, she has also worked on some documentaries and television projects. In 2024, she directed Doordarshan’s Avantika. It was in March 2025, when she revealed that her next feature film is in the works.
Talking about her career as a writer, it was in March 2025, when she launched her autobiography, Yun Guzri Hai Ab Talak. Talking about the same, Seema revealed to the Hindustan Times that her book took a total of 24 years to shape up, but the writing part began 34 years ago, when she was going through a tough phase in her life during her divorce from Om Puri. She recalled how she’s not an expressive person, and she gave shape to her emotions through words in the form of letters. Seema said:
“It all started when, after 11 years of courtship and marriage, Nandita (Puri, later wife) came into Puri’s life, and I went through a divorce. It was unexpected; it was very painful, and I initially thought it was just a phase. I was pregnant and had moved to my mother’s home, and then I lost the child in the fifth month. I wrote my turmoil in a letter, ‘Tum kyon nahi aaye?’. I am not an expressive person, so I started writing and simultaneously began the struggle of rebuilding myself.”
Seema also mentioned that she didn’t only cover part of her life with Om Puri in her memoir but also everything about her life, including her father, grandfather, and her brothers. She stated that when Om Puri died, she started putting everything together in the form of a book.

Om Puri’s first wife, Seema Kapoor sat for an interview with Siddharth Kannan recently, wherein she talked about her relationship with the late actor. She shared that Om Puri met Nandita when he was shooting for the Hollywood film, City Of Joy, and this turned her life upside down. She shared that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first wife, Renu Saluja knew about this but thought it was only a phase. Seema revealed knowing about the affair much later, when her ex-husband called her and revealed that he was seeing someone else. Well, Seema went with her friends’ opinions and thought that Om was only seeking attention.
Later, when Om Puri moved back to Mumbai, everything was going right, and although Seema knew about the affair, she wanted to mend things as she was pregnant. Om, on the other hand, knew about her pregnancy, but it gave Nandita insecurities, and she would call the actor in front of his wife.
Seema revealed that Om wanted an excuse to be separated from her and would drink and fight, while Nandita would make a scene, and thus, she decided to walk away from the marriage. Seema said her brother, Annu Kapoor was so angry with this that he vowed to drag Om Puri to the court. Well, in the process, Seema lost her unborn child. In the same interview, she revealed that she got Rs. 6 lakh as alimony from Om Puri. However, when she lost her child, instead of consoling her, Om Puri sent Rs. 25,000 to her through his secretary, which the former rejected.
