LeBron James is used to breaking records and now, he has become the first NBA player to tap into the Barbie universe.
James will soon have an official Ken doll made in his image, launching this month as part of Barbie’s Signature Kenbassadors collection, which “celebrates influential Ken figures who are creating positive change and contributing to a better world for all.”
The collector’s edition doll will debut on Mattel Creations’ site on April 23rd for $75. The limited edition toy will hit Amazon and other retailers the following day, coinciding with the anniversary of the release of the first Black Barbie doll.
Every detail of the doll reflects James’ features, even down to his manicured beard. The specialized Ken sports a blue and white varsity jacket with “LJ” on the front and “Just A Kid From Akron” on the back, along with patches honoring his foundation and home state. The look is completed with a “We Are Family” t-shirt, houndstooth pants, and Nike sneakers.
While the initial doll’s release is considerably affordable, it will likely skyrocket on the resell market, poised to bring in thousands in upcoming years from LeBron stans who may miss this month’s release.
