With the increasing number of scams in marriage proposals and a massive rise in divorce, affairs and crime, people have grown wary of the constitution of marriage. While it was once a holy institution filled with honour, love and respect, there have been significant changes to the meaning altogether. However, those willing to give love and marriage a chance are faced with a great possibility of being scammed when looking for a partner, especially in scenarios where the meeting between two parties is being arranged.
Verifying the profile in arranged marriages
People have, time and again, been made aware of the lies that are told during marriage. While some lie about their relationships, others lie about their academics, profession, health and status. This often leads to complications between the couple and their families, where one party feels suffocated and the other betrayed. So, how does one verify that they are marrying an authentic person?

Netizens react to the post
While we want to believe that there is an abundance of goodness in the world, one needs to be sure when taking a step as big as getting married. Netizens reacted to the post and shared their opinion on the same. A user wrote, “Better to match ITR instead of horoscope. On a serious note, a complete health checkup report from a reputed hospital and an ITR check should happen at least between the two.” Another penned, “Yes, some men lie about salary. You should also check your credit score in case he’s not a big defaulter, ask for a character certificate from the local police station, and the most important one is a medical certificate! He might be an alcohol abuser #voteforwomanprimeminister.” A user in a long note shared their story and stated:
“Yes because countless families of girls have been scammed by grooms claiming to earn well. Thankfully, now there are salary slips. In olden times, there was nothing of this sort. My own Mausi (now deceased), who was a lecturer then, was married to a man who claimed to be a Police officer. Only after her vidai she came home to the servant’s quarter of the police officer. Her husband was a servant, was already married, and had a kid. She returned home and never went back. No divorce or anything. Dedicated her life to education, did 2 PhDs, had a fantastic teaching career, and wrote psychology books.”

A user penned, “One of my friends worked at a hiring profile job.. while her family was looking for matches, she sometimes used to crosscheck the packages mentioned on the matrimonial sites and the portal almost all had fabricated information and lied about their packages being much higher.” However, some were not in favour of this verification. A user said, “Boy should run away if they demand verified salary slips.” Another comment read, “I was asked to submit by the family of one of the girls, and I sent as well but said no for an arranged marriage. If they don’t trust even the salary I am getting, how would they trust anything in future?” A commenter said, “Is it arranged marriage or joining a new job?”
