Om Puri’s first wife, Seema Kapoor talks about her bond with Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Seema Kapoor recently sat for an interview with Siddharth Kannan and reflected on her relationship with Vidhu Vinod Chopra after her divorce from Om Puri. She was friends with Vidhu and his first wife, Renu Saluja. Talking about their bond, Seema said that she met Vidhu just after she left Om. She shared that both of them needed a shoulder back then, and it was what bonded them further, which eventually evolved. She also revealed being grateful for the friendship she found in Vidhu and she shared that they are still friends. In Seema’s words:
“After I left Om, I met Vinod, who was working on the film Khamosh. We were friends first, both of us needed a shoulder to cry on, and it just evolved into something else from there. I thank god for the friendship we had, because we’re still friends. Relationships end, but friendships don’t.”
In the same interview, Seema Kapoor shared that after her marriage ended with Om Puri, she became more of an introvert, while Vidhu became a bit possessive, after his own heartbreak. Seema stated that she always knew that she wouldn’t be able to love Vidhu the way she loved Om Puri, who even complimented her bond with the actor. She called Vinod a beautiful man, and mentioned that she was nothing in front of him, but she had the feeling that she wouldn’t be able to do proper justice to this relationship. Seema said that their families wanted them to get married, and Vinod also wanted the same, but she wasn’t ready to give in. Seema can be quoted as saying:
“This doesn’t mean that he’s still possessive. But he was for a while. But I always knew that I wouldn’t be able to love him like I loved Puri sahab. Puri sahab even complimented us as a pair. Vinod was a beautiful man, I’m nothing in front of him. But I felt that I wouldn’t be able to do justice to this relationship. Our families wanted us to get married; Vinod wanted to get married; but I said no.”
Seema Kapoor reveals why she couldn’t say ‘yes’ to Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s marriage proposal
Sharing more about why she couldn’t say ‘yes’ to Vidhu Vinod’s marriage proposal, Seema Kapoor revealed that she had hidden some details of her relationship with Om Puri from Vinod, which she couldn’t do if she would get married to him. She shared how, at a beach, they were exchanging messages when Vinod asked her if she loved him. Seema replied with a ‘yes’ but when the actor asked her if she would get married to him, she said ‘no’. Seema revealed:
“I had hidden some details about my relationship with Puri sahab from him. I didn’t have the courage. I felt that I couldn’t lie to him all my life if I marry him. We were at the beach, and like little children, we were writing messages to each other. He wrote, ‘Do you love me?’ I wrote, ‘Yes’. He wrote, ‘Will you marry me?’ I wrote, ‘No’. He didn’t know what to say to me; he just looked at me quietly.”

In the same conversation, Seema Kapoor shared that Vidhu Vinod Chopra didn’t have any idea about why she said ‘no’ to him, until the time he read her autobiography. After reading the same, he asked Seema if this was the reason she said ‘no’ to his marriage proposal, and she gave an affirmative answer.
