Noah Wyle, 53, has finally addressed a “sad” lawsuit against his new series, The Pitt.
Before he executive produced and starred in the 2025 series The Pitt, Wyle rose to fame on another popular medical drama: the long-running series ER.
However, in August 2024, ER creator Michael Crichton’s estate – overseen by his widow, Sherri Crichton – sued over allegations The Pitt was too similar to the ’90s drama.

“The only thing that I can legally speak to is how I feel emotionally, which is just profoundly sad and disappointed,” Wyle addressed the suit in an interview with Variety.
Wyle, Warner Bros. TV executive producer John Wells and showrunner R. Scott Gemill are all being sued for breach of contract.
“This taints the legacy, and it shouldn’t have,” Wyle told the outlet.

Before The Pitt, there were talks of an ER reboot.
However, the revival fell apart after Crichton’s estate and Warner Bros. failed to reach an agreement. Crichton then sued over claims The Pitt is an unauthorised reboot.
“At one point, this could have been a partnership. And when it wasn’t a partnership, it didn’t need to turn acrimonious,” Wyle continued.

“But on the 30th anniversary of ER, I’ve never felt less celebratory of that achievement than I do this year.”
ER premiered in 1994 with Wyle appearing in the pilot episode as Dr. John Carter.

He was a series regular for 11 seasons, for which he received Emmy Award nominations.
Wyle reprised his role for several episodes in the show’s 15th and final season in 2009.
Across his many years on the show, Wyle appeared in over 250 episodes.
Wyle stars in The Pitt, which aired in January 2025, as Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
Following the failed ER reboot, Wyle told Variety “we pivoted as far in the opposite direction as we could in order to tell the story we wanted to tell – and not for litigious reasons, but because we didn’t want to retread our own creative work.”
Warner Bros. TV released a statement responding to the lawsuit, calling it “baseless”.
