Some artists perform. Safdar Hashmi provoked. A playwright, poet and worker, he did not just tell stories – he fought with him. As the founder of Jana Nataya Manch (Janam), he designed naked corruption, inequality and exploitation during Indira Gandhi’s era, bold, politically charged demonstrations, as a weapon, as a weapon.
His art was disregarded. And on 1 January 1989, he paid the final value for it and performed the medium for the courage to speak the truth for the power.
