Emraan Hashmi became popular in the film industry for his bold and romantic image on-screen. Fans loved his lover-boy roles and gave him a ‘serial kisser’ tag, which became famous around every household in the country. Despite the actor’s various attempts to get away from that image, fans often demand to see him in his old style. But, in a recent interview, Emraan Hashmi, known for playing intense characters in films like Murder and Jannat, shared that his on-screen persona became a hurdle in his love life and marriage to his girlfriend, Parveen.
Emraan Hashmi reveals his in-laws didn’t agree to his marriage with Parveen
Emraan Hashmi, who prefers to keep his personal life away from media glares, recently opened up about his love story. He sat down for a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast show. He revealed that his relationship with his now wife, Parveen Shahani, began when he started shooting for his first film. She has been with him since then, and they decided to marry three years later. In his words:
“I had started dating Parveen on the day when I started shooting my film. We got married three years later in 2006. It was very difficult for her family to wrap their head around this boy who got this weird label to him and wondered if he the right fit for our daughter.”
By 2006, Emraan’s passionate on-screen persona and ‘serial kisser’ tag were widely known inside and outside the industry. Consequently, her family, who were not a part of showbiz, were sceptical about their relationship and tried to stand against it. However, the actor tried convincing them by explaining the difference between his on-screen roles and off-screen personalities. Recalling the time, he said:
“There was no acceptance, there was pushback in the beginning, but jab main thoda convince kiya, family ko jaake milna pada to explain kiya that is not me. Just trust upon me that is the character I play toh waha se chizze thodi aasan ho gayi and I got her hand.”
Emraan Hashmi and his wife, Parveen, didn’t cry in front of their son after his cancer diagnosis
Emraan Hashmi and Parveen Shahani are among the strongest couples in Bollywood, and they have faced several ups and downs together. After the couple’s marriage in 2006, they lived blissfully and welcomed their son, Ayaan, on February 3, 2010. But, after a regular family brunch in January 2014, their 4-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer. It was followed by five years of frequent hospital visits, unending anxiety and hope that he would heal soon. In the same conversation, Emraan Hashmi mentioned that despite their son’s young age, he, his wife, and other family members did not cry in front of him. Rather, they tried to present themselves strong in front of him. He explained:
“The first time we got this news, we couldn’t even cry in front of our son. We went to a room and bawled. We didn’t want to show it to our son and affect his mental state because that was very important. He was down that road for at least five years of recovery. We had to come from a place of strength and not show even the slightest hint of weakness.”
