The controversy also caused comments from Bhushannsin Holkara, the descendant of Agilobaya Holkar, who originally opposed the removal.
The statue of Vagya, a dog near Samadhi in the rigor -form of Chharapati, Shivaj Mahara, has licked a fierce discussion on her historical legitimacy and expediency. The problem was raised by the royal descendants, the Sambjojiya Chratopati and Udaanraj Bhosal, who demanded its removal, saying that there was no historical evidence confirming the popular fairy tale about a loyal dog that jumps in Shivaj Mahara.
Sambjojiraj, who first raised the issue last month, noted that Vaggia’s history was introduced in 1919 through the game of Marat Rajsanas, written by the Rama Ganes Gadokari. He claimed that a fairy tale that has become part of the Marathi since then was exclusively fictitious and has no grounds in historical records. He expressed his unbelief that the statue was established without reliable historical support, especially given that it was greater than the statue of Shiva Mahara. “It’s absolutely funny,” he said.
The controversy attracted additional attention when the Interior Minister Amit Shah visited the Raiga Fort. Sambjojira hoped that Shah would resolve this issue and advocate the statue, but it was not mentioned during his visit, leaving the royal family disappointed. Despite this, Sambjujija remained optimistic, noting that the chief Minister of Devendra Fadovis had previously hinted at the formation of the Committee on this issue.
Wayanrad Bhosal added his voice criticism, asking how a dog reminiscent of the British breed can be seen as a symbol of Indian heritage. He claimed that the statue, if not based on a true story, must be dismantled.
The controversy also caused comments from Bhushannsin Holkara, the descendant of Agilobaya Holkar, who originally opposed the removal. However, finding a misunderstanding at the time of deleting the statue, he expressed that decisions should be based on historical evidence to prevent further emotional divisions.
As the discussion continues, the fate of the statue remains uncertain, and many call for careful, based on the actual approach to maintain the integrity of the Shivaj Maharaj’s heritage.
