Teddi Mellencamp says doctors have told her she has a “50/50” chance of surviving cancer and “for the first time”, she feels “really scared”.
The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 43, recently revealed her melanoma had turned to stage four and had metastasized to her lungs and brain.
She is currently undergoing immunotherapy and in a recent interview with Nightline said she often asks her doctors what her survival rate is.

“It’s one of my favourite things to ask, ‘How long I got? What are my chances?’ And they oftentimes say 50/50,” she explained.
“50/50?” Mellencamp recalled saying in response.
“I wouldn’t buy a car that’s only gonna drive a 50 per cent chance of the time. I don’t want this.”
Mellencamp, however, noted that trying to think in terms of odds isn’t exactly useful for her situation either.
“I’ve learnt this isn’t the best question to ask if you’re doing immunotherapy because immunotherapy has only been around for 10 years,” she said.

“So that’s where I then try to find the positive,” she later added.
Mellencamp also noted that her cancer journey has been particularly challenging because she isn’t in control.
“I like to have control and this is completely out of my control and for the first time I’m like really scared,” she said candidly.

On top of that, she says it’s been difficult to adjust to her limited ability.
”I would say the hardest thing for me is I’ve always been a super active person and like I cannot do the things that I was used to doing,” she added.
And she has been experiencing emotional highs and lows as she navigates this health battle.
“Sometimes I feel really strong and beautiful and like I can do anything and sometimes I feel like this might be the lowest and the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” she said.
But she hasn’t been alone and she shared that her family and friends have been close by her side throughout the experience.
