Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been an iconic sitcom in the history of Indian Television. It has been running for more than 17 years now, and has become an important part of Indian households. The show has given us several laughter-filled evenings and memorable characters like ‘Jethalal’, ‘Daya bhabhi’ and ‘Bhide Bhai’, among others, who made their way into the people’s hearts. But, beyond the good memories with its on-screen run, the show has been affected by a myriad of controversies by the former actors who were replaced after they left the show. From Jennifer Mistry, who used to play ‘Roshan Bhabhi’ to Palak Sindhwani, who played ‘Sonu’, fans were left disappointed over the fiasco. They called out the show’s creator, Asit Kumarr Modi, and he recently shared that he admitted that he gets affected by these things.
Asit Modi reveals his feelings over claims made by former actors against him
Several former actors of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah including Jennifer Mistry, Gurcharan Singh, Shailesh Lodha, Palak Sindhwani, Priya Rajda and Monika Bhadouria, made a variety of accusations against Asit Kumarr Modi. The producer was blamed for multiple reasons, from misconduct and poor treatment to unpaid dues. After staying silent over it, he recently sat down for an interview with Screen and mentioned that he gets upset over such allegations but has always keep his doors open for discussion. In his words
“I have never detached myself from the actors. If there is any issue, they can always contact me. I have always been very honest and kept the show first. I have never thought of any personal gains, so with incidents like these, I do get upset, but it’s a part of life.”
Asit added that the actors who left the show said different things about him that stunned him. But, he won’t reply or make any counterclaims simply because those people also played a role in TMKOC‘s success. The producer added that the accusations upset him, but he has moved on. He explained:
“Even though I led it, the show became popular due to everyone’s efforts. I couldn’t have made this what it is today all alone. We are like a train. Some compartments get derailed, but the train will continue to run. I do feel bad, but I forgive them because if I hold a grudge in my heart. I won’t be happy and won’t be able to make people laugh.”
Asit Modi opens up about ‘Dayaben’s’ return to the show
Disha Vakani, who played the iconic role of ‘Dayaben’, left the show five years ago. Since then, fans have missed the heartfelt character in the show. Moreover, for a long time, they have been waiting for her to come back. Consequently, sharing his views on the issues, Asit Modi mentioned that he understands and agrees with fans’ demands. He promised that he would try his best to bring the character back. Meanwhile, writers and other artists are trying to fill the void. He said:
“We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns; she has family duties. She is like my younger sister; we are like family today. It might be difficult for her to return. I have shortlisted a few people for the role, and you will get to know them soon. It has been five years since she left, and we miss her even today. She was so caring towards her fellow artists as well as the crew. We aim to find someone just like Disha Vakani.”
