Politics of corruption and appeasement is a direct attack by NDA on the Congress party in Karnataka. Final result: Congress won all the seats three by-election seats And the NDA lost ground in constituencies that were considered strongholds.
The Congress party wrested Channapatna from JD(S), with CP Yogishwar defeating Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Union minister HD Kumaraswamy, by a margin of 26,929 votes. This was Nikhil’s third consecutive electoral defeat after losing the Mandya Lok Sabha seat in 2019 and the Ramnagar Assembly seat in 2023.
Former CM Basavaraj Bommai had fielded his son Bharat Bommai from Shiggaon in Haveri district, his constituency since 2008. The latter lost to Congress’s Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan by 13,446 votes.
In Sandur, a reserved constituency which has been a Congress stronghold from 1957 to 1985 and 2004, E Annapurna, wife of Congress MP E Tukaram, defeated BJP’s Bangaru Hanumanthu by 9,568 votes.
The fight in Sandur was between Labor Minister Santosh H Lad and independent MLA and former Mining Minister G Janardhan Reddy. On October 3, the Supreme Court had lifted the 15-year ban on Reddy from entering Ballari following his arrest over illegal export of iron ore. Basavaraj Bommai was the face of his son in Shiggaon.
