In every election, these innocent people are used and exploited by local leaders who take away their precious votes by providing rehabilitation and luring them to include them in local Panchayat elections. In more than 20 years of the formation of Jharkhand, the government has changed several times, but there is still no change in the standard of living of the displaced people of Bokaro.
In more than 50 years, no significant steps have been taken by the Bihar government or the Jharkhand government (after getting statehood). Articles 14 and 21 provide the right to equality and the right to adequate livelihood, which have become distant luxuries for these people to enjoy.
Many landowners whose land was acquired 50 years ago have not yet received compensation, which is in violation of the provisions. Section 23 lists a number of factors to determine compensation for the acquired land, for example, the court will consider the market value of the land, damage caused to the interested person, etc.
So far, many elections have been won, and many local leaders have started their careers based on their attractive promises of rehabilitation. It is up to the representative of the India Bloc – will she follow in the footsteps of previous leaders, or create a new history for the people of long-forgotten Bokaro?
