How did we find out the truth?: We did a keyword search to see reports about Tripathi being a part of any such advertisement, but did not find any.
-
Then we did a reverse image search on some keyframes of the viral video and this gave us the original video Video Shared by Tripathi and ‘UPI’ Will run.
-
In this video, Tripathi talks about UPI fraud and does not mention anything about BJP.
-
He says, “I sell peanuts, not my intelligence. Look at this message, it says ‘You have won the lottery. Click the link, enter the UPI PIN and win money! Don’t I know? Here I send my UPI I will put it.” Pin and there my money will be deducted’ I’m a peanut seller, not a fool.’
We also saw that the phone screen read “WINNER.” Congrats! You have won a lottery worth Rs 25,00,000! To claim your prize, click here, followed by a hyperlink. In the viral video, it has been replaced with BJP’s election symbol and reads: “Vote for BJP”.
