I often asked him if anarchists have also thought about their health and body to do something to defy and bring down something! On rare occasions, Tarun will speak about himself. I don’t know if it was anarchist in her or some other aspect of her or her, but, despite her outgoing nature, in the hearts of her hearts, I knew that she had been a virgin.
Is it probably this sensitivity that also respected it in college. There was nothing about him that could be despised. Tarun overcame all his prejudices and saw life for his “big picture”. This is why he can easily adjust a large array of students from different backgrounds.
Keeping his methods in mind, Tarun went to film and television, worked with NDTV for some time, and went out of Delhi. He went back to Shillong where he spent his childhood. He opted to get away from the mainstream gaze and went on to make documentary films on local knowledge systems, culture and everyday life of the Northeast.
I was in touch – and whenever I had an opportunity to visit Shillong, I would meet him. When I shared with him that I was looking for a cover photo for my book on emotions, he easily shared his photos and once I selected one of them, promised to send a high resolution version Did.
Tarun was not just spectacular; He made it a point for not flashing and went to the extra mile to stand out. I wish, in this, he has failed, seeing the amount of tribute and intimate nature on social media since the news broke.
The beauty of these tributes is that many people come from those who never met Tarun personally – and only knew them through their positions, and comments on social media. But he felt it as a personal loss.
I wonder if history has time and place to record these intimate lives that hid behind the yellow of the ordinary.
Tarun Bharia died on 25 January after a heart attack. He was 54 years old.
