The State Legislature gave its approval for sub-classification of SCS, which is a long-running demand of the majority SC community in Telangana.
Prior to the 2023 elections, the BJP also tried to woo Madigas, which is more than 50 percent of the SC population in the state. At that time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a major meeting organized by Manda Krishna Madiga, who has been leading the movement for sub-classification of SCS for decades.
The Supreme Court recently approved the deck for its implementation, along with maintaining sub-classification. The Modi government also honored Krishna Madiga with the prestigious Padma Shri Award last month, strengthening its outreach.
He blamed the method in which various castes were made a sub-group and alleged that Madigas was denied proper stake.
Given the political proximity for the BJP of Krishna Madiga, despite its commitment to the reason, the Congress will face heat on the issue.
A caste survey will definitely contribute to social justice for the aim of social, economic and political empowerment and sub-classification of Scheduled Castes of backward classes. But the ruling and opposition parties are closed in an intensive political battle for the other backward classes (OBCs) by controlling the story around social justice and marginalized among the scheduled castes.
