Saira Banu requests fans not to call her AR Rahman’s ex-wife
Several media houses shared updates about Saira Banu after AR Rahman was hospitalised in Chennai in March 15, 2025. They also tried to contact and address her as his ex-wife due to their separation announcement in November 2024. However, on March 16, 2025, Saira shared a special voice note for the Oscar-winning music composer’s fans and made a special request to them. In the voice note, she shared her good wishes and health update on AR Rahman and said:
“Assalamualaikum. I wish him a speedy recovery. I received the news that he had chest pain and underwent angiography, and by the grace of Allah, he is fine now; he is doing well.”
Saira continued and asked the singer’s fans and other people not to address her as his ex-wife. She revealed that they haven’t divorced legally, which implies she is still his legal wife. AR Rahman’s wife added that they had just parted ways because she wasn’t well for the past couple of years and didn’t want to stress him about it. In her words:
“I want to tell all of you that we are not officially divorced; we are still husband and wife; it’s just that we are separated because I was not feeling well for the last two years, and I didn’t want to stress him too much, but please don’t say ‘ex-wife’. It’s just that we are separated, but my prayers are always with him, and I want to say one thing to everyone, especially his family: please don’t stress him too much, and take care of him. Thank you, Allah Hafiz”.
